T4 Ep. 0 Dressing Woman l – A critical perspective: fashion and feminism with Monica Titton
In this first English episode, writer Vanessa Rosales talks to fashion scholar and culture critic Monica Titton – senior scientist at the fashion department of the University of Vienna. They discuss what it means to have a critical approach on fashion and the ways in which the field of fashion studies can provide a landscape. They talk about the ways in which sociology can shape understandings of fashion and how Marxism, feminism and postcolonialism can drive research and analysis.
The role of the fashion critic, the complicated ties between fashion media and neoliberalism, and the ways in which certain lines of work and writing can bridge the gap between academic fashion and the fashion industry are also discussed.
A theme that has been explored by both writers in their work is also analyzed: the myriad of connections between fashion and feminism. The themes of feminist fashion and fashionable feminism are also featured.
